The northeast Brazilian state of Ceara has 573 kilometers, or 353 miles, of coastline and is sunny over 325 days a year. The climate is tropical, but the state’s location on the Atlantic Ocean makes much of it quite comfortable. The combination of beaches, sun and climate make it one of the most popular places for international real estate investors to buy and invest.

The capital and largest city in Ceara is Fortaleza, with 2.4 million of the state’s 6.5 million residents. Fortaleza is one of Brazil’s most popular tourist destinations for people coming from other parts of the country and is becoming increasingly popular with overseas tourists. The combination of beaches, nightlife and culture make this city, founded in 1500, an easy choice for many to visit.

Some of the well known beaches in Fortaleza include Iracema, Meireles, Mucuripe and the Praia do Futuro, or Beach of the Future. Iracama is a bohemian gathering spot, famous for its many nightclubs that stay open until the morning. Meireles has a lot of hotels and is a popular beach for families and tourists, while Mucuripe is where the fishermen launch their boats. The Praia do Futuro is a great place for sunbathing and surfing and is also known for its rustic restaurants called barracas.

In addition to Fortaleza, other popular destinations in Ceara include Canoa Quebrada, Taiba, Caponga and Cumbuco along the coast and Sobral, the largest city inland. All of these locations are popular for tourists and visitors and have many properties available for the interested investor.

Canoa Quebrada is a small village that is about 160 km east of Fortaleza near the city of Aracati. This village has become a prime spot for developers and there are many new houses and apartments under construction as well as undeveloped lots. For those looking to build beachfront housing, this is a tropical paradise with still affordable prices. Closer to Fortaleza is Caponga, only 55 km from the city but with pristine beaches and plenty of property available.

Going outside of the capital city to the north, one of the first locations you come to is Cumbuco and farther out is Taiba. Cumbuco has both off-plan and existing property for sale, and Taiba is, like Canoa, becoming increasingly popular. Getting your dream home or location is easy in this state with so much available at reasonable prices.

Getting to Fortaleza is easy with the new international airport terminal at Pinto Martins International Airport (FOR). The airport is just 15 minutes from downtown, and there are an increasing number of charters that fly directly into Fortaleza from European cities. There is daily connecting service from Salvador, Rio de Janeiro, and Sao Paulo.
